Stephen Willard
Director | Author | Worklife Discovery
An experienced agency leader, people engagement specialist, author and creative strategist, Stephen drives the vision running through Emblaze.
Starting out in recruitment advertising and then employer branding, Stephen spent much of his early career building creative teams in employee benefits communication, servicing some of the world’s leading employers.
But it’s in his era as a workplace consultant, spending time nurturing board-level conversation, that he began to identify the effects that perceived trivialities among people could have on the commercial success of a company. Tuning into the subtleties of internal conversation to help uncover the true essence of a company and empowered with insights across the spectrum of work and life, Stephen saw a more imaginative way of engaging companies and their people and began forming a new type of engagement provider in Emblaze.
Central to Stephen’s career has been a recurring intrigue in the relationship between people and company; identity and career; love and necessity. And, through his persona as a published author, he adopts imaginative literature as a means to express his fascination with human behaviour.

Our company
What companies do you work with?
Our clients include professional service providers, centuries-old global manufacturing brands, not-for-profit member associations, insurance companies and some of the biggest pension schemes in the UK.
It’s fair to say that typically our clients are UK or US-based companies with 250 to 10,000 employees, but we also have clients well outside of that – so a broad-range in terms of shape and size, industry and sector.
However, more importantly they all have two things in common:
- They recognise the value of communication and its role in inspiring a better worklife experience.
- They’re brilliant people to work with – the relationships we have with our clients matter to us, personally, and that’s what we look for beyond everything else.
Are you independent?
Completely. We are an entirely independent and owner-operated company, humbly scaled from start-up with consistent reinvestment in our team. Unencumbered by group or investor ownership, our focus centres on our clients, our people and our proposition. This freedom means we can be as flexible or as decisive – or as courageous – as we choose.
Where are you based?
By definition, we’re a remote-first, UK business with office locations and collaboration space in London, Kent, Hampshire and Lincolnshire. However, we’re set up to serve a national and international client base, regularly travelling to client locations and adapting where and how we work to suit the individual needs of our clients and their people.
How can we work with you?
It goes without saying that we’d love to have a conversation about how we could work together. Our size means we can be agile and react quickly if needed, but we don’t like to rush unnecessarily and will take our time when engaging in new opportunities.
Relationships fuel our business and so we’ll always have the time to build some initial foundations and make sure the opportunity is right for everyone.
Are you hiring?
We’re on a mission to build a remarkable worklife experience business – and that takes remarkable people. Check out our Careers page here for our current opportunities.
